What is an ATS?
An Applicant Tracking System (ATS) is software that companies use to manage job applications. It scans, parses, and ranks resumes before a human ever sees them.
Why ATS Optimization Matters in 2026
Over 75% of large companies use ATS software. If your CV isnt optimized, it may never reach a recruiter's desk.
1. Use Standard Section Headings
Stick to conventional headings: "Work Experience," "Education," "Skills." Creative headings confuse ATS parsers.
2. Include Relevant Keywords
Study the job description carefully. Use the exact phrases and terms that appear in the posting.
3. Avoid Tables and Columns
ATS systems struggle with multi-column layouts. Use a simple, single-column format.
4. Save as DOCX or Plain Text
While PDFs look nice, some ATS systems cant parse them correctly. Submit DOCX when possible.
5. Use Standard Fonts
Stick to Arial, Calibri, or Times New Roman. Fancy fonts may not render correctly in ATS parsers.
